KSL City Mall is where a lot of Singaporean day-trippers and hotel guests end up, and the mall itself has plenty to eat. But the reason to stay in this part of Johor Bahru is what is around it: three proper hawker venues and a weekly night market, none more than ten minutes away. Here is how we would spend an evening — we run a stall at the first one, so we are biased about where you should end up.
1. Century Street Food Court (Taman Century) — dinner and supper
The biggest of the three and the closest: 80-plus stalls, open 4 pm to 2 am, five minutes on foot. Pork satay, wok noodles, lok lok, dumplings, and at our stall — Apam Balik Jalil — thin crispy apam balik in twenty-plus flavours, pisang goreng and hand-made keropok lekor. Mixed (non-halal) venue. Best for: a long, cheap dinner with a group; supper after 11 pm.
2. Cedar Point Food Centre (食得福) — grilled seafood
Jalan Musang Bulan, tucked behind the Grand Paragon Hotel, a short Grab from KSL. Evenings only. The signature is grilled stingray with sambal; there is also satay, rojak and the usual fried noodles. Smaller and a little calmer than Century.
Best for: seafood over a beer; couples.
3. Taman Sri Tebrau hawker centre (大马花园小贩中心) — the old-timers
Jalan Badik, Taman Sri Tebrau, ten minutes by car. This one runs a morning session and an evening session, and most stalls are decades-old family operations. Locals go for the Hokkien prawn mee (stock boiled from prawn shells, half yellow noodle half thick bee hoon), the Penang-style char kway teow fried with duck egg, and the Shanghai pan-fried dumplings — including an otak-otak filled version you will not find elsewhere.
Best for: breakfast the morning after; anyone who wants JB's version of "the classics".
4. KSL Monday night market (pasar malam)
Mondays only, in front of KSL City Mall stretching towards the Grand Paragon, from about 4 pm until 10 pm. Fruit, fried snacks, grilled squid, clothes. Cash. If you are in JB on a Monday it is a free show.
Best for: snacking your way along, taking things back to the hotel.
Inside the mall
If it is raining or 35 °C, KSL City Mall's ground-floor food street and the kopitiams inside are fine, and most chain restaurants there are halal-certified — the reverse of the open-air courts outside.
A sensible evening
- 5 pm: shop or nap.
- 7 pm: walk to Century Street Food Court, eat around the rows, save room.
- 9 pm: apam balik at our stall — kacang for tradition, Nutella-keju if you want the modern one.
- Next morning: Grab to Taman Sri Tebrau for Hokkien mee before the drive back.

Which food court near KSL is halal?
None of the three big open-air ones is halal-certified as a venue; each has Malay-run pork-free stalls. For a labelled-halal hawker centre, Medan Selera Meldrum Walk in the city centre is the usual answer. Inside KSL City Mall most chain restaurants are halal-certified.
Can I walk from KSL to Century Street Food Court at night?
Yes — it is about 5 minutes along Jalan Dato Sulaiman, well lit and busy in the evening. Plenty of people do it after shopping.
Which night is the KSL night market?
Monday. It runs in front of KSL City Mall from around 4 pm to 10 pm. Taman Pelangi's pasar malam is Tuesday, near Leisure Mall.
